CLARA – Concern-Lane Alliance for Rural Areas

My skill is my recognition

Parveen Bibi (Wife) &Nazir Masih (Husband) working as daily wagers were living happily with their 6 children in a rented house. But when the time came to marry their elder daughter they took a debt of Rs.50,000/- from a usury. Instead of paying back the actual amount, it became difficult for them to pay the monthly interest on usury. The usury amount increased to Rs.120,000/-The fear of the usury forced them to get a debt from nearby landlord.

The land lord promised to pay the usury amount only if Nazir Masih will look after his fields and animals 24 hours. Nazir agreed but unfortunately the debt of Rs. 50,000 was still there.

He then worked for the landlord day & night. And in return of 24 hours working he was given Rs.6,000 only. He was not allowed to go home once a week only for few hours. Now only Rs.120,000 can give him freedom from this slavery. His wife became very sick in these tough circumstances and left her cleaning job. This leads them to starvation.

Finally Nazir decided to meet a brick kiln owner so that he may release himself form this debt. The brick kiln owner promised for his release by paying off the usury amount. But the wife and children were not agreed to move to that work place and live like slaves. Finally they heard from some resources that in village 412 people are getting possession on their land along with a single room. They sold out their all furniture, electronics etc and collected Rs.50,000/ . CLARA contributed Rs. 25,000 and rest of the amount they promised to pay back in installments.

Now they are setteled in village 412 leaving behind all the miseries and sorrows. Nazir and his wife and sons are working hard to pay back the debt on monthly installments. But they are happy to get their own land.
